The Death of Dean and Chapter

Dr Robert McManners took the day off university to watch the demolition of the chimney at Dean and Chapter Colliery, Ferryhill, in 1968.

Bob painted in situ on the day to produce his original oil on board, which was the basis of this later oil on canvas.

The cine film, taken on the day of the demolition by Tom Ellis, shows the collapsing chimney.
