Page from a Sketch Book – Underground Miners
Tom McGuinness was one of the few mining artists who took a sketchbook underground with him, capturing his colleagues in his brief breaks from work.
Tom’s drawings also formed the basis of his paintings and printed works, and he used his sketchbooks to retrieve ideas and begin the process of artistic composition. Tom said: “Draw what you see, draw while fresh in the mind, work at it, improve, change”.
