Women Protesting
The Miners’ Strike of 1984-85 will always be remembered in British history as the most significant turning point in the power relationship between the working class and the government.
During the Miners’ Strike, women protested alongside their husbands, fathers and brothers to oppose the closure of the mines. Within days they were organising food parcels, marching in rallies and joining pickets.
The women held fundraising events, took part in demonstrations and spoke at rallies, letting people know what the strike was like for them, their families and their threatened communities.
