Ted Holloway
Born 1926 in Fair Oak, Hampshire
Hampshire born Holloway was conscripted to the mines as a Bevin Boy in 1944. The industrial landscape of the North East had a powerful influence on him and his art. He resettled in Craghead, adopting a Geordie accent together with the miner’s way of life.
Ted met Tom Lamb while at Craghead and the two would go off on painting expeditions together. Tom remembered Ted being a very enthusiastic artist and that they would often return home from these trips covered in whatever paint Ted had been using.
To save money, Ted would construct his own frames for paintings and use whatever he had to hand, even resorting to using boot polish for one of his works.
