Miner and artist Matthew Dunn lived in the Washington area and painted pit scenes as well as local landmarks, such as Washington Old Hall.
Matthew, known as Matty, left the mines following an accident and began working for Washington Council as a local housing officer. He was a member of Washington Art Club in the 1960s and is seen here, sketched by fellow member Alan Ball, in 1967.
