David McClure

David McClure left Glasgow University to be a Bevin Boy in 1944.
Inspired by his new, underground world he sketched his colleagues in their daily tasks.
When his service was over he went on to study at Edinburgh College of Art, submitting mining scenes as part of his entrance portfolio. Winning scholarships to study in the warmer climates of Italy, Spain and France McClure eventually returned to Scotland where he continued to be inspired by his industrial surroundings.
